Chronic knee pain is most often a result of a type of arthritis: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or post-traumatic arthritis. Knee arthritis is the degeneration or loss of cartilage in the knee joint. The cartilage is generally smooth and acts like a cushion between the ends of the thigh bone and shin bone.
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot that forms in one or several of the deep veins in your body, typically in the lower extremities. DVT can cause pain and swelling in the legs, but can also occur without any symptoms. Deep vein thrombosis can be serious medical concern because the blood clot in your veins can break loose and travel to your lungs causing a pulmonary embolism (PE).
